Who Is the Top High School 2022 MLB Draft Prospect?

There are four clear options as to whom is the No. 1 overall high school prospect for the 2022 MLB Draft. While none will be bad selections when made, an argument can be made that whoever lands these four players next July instantly becomes a winner of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Termarr Johnson

While you could make a case for all four of these players to be ranked No. 1 overall, you could make arguably the most-compelling case for Johnson. After a strong summer with the East Cobb Astros, Johnson has quickly emerged as one of the top overall hitters in this upcoming draft class, evident by winning the Perfect Game All-American Classic Home Run Derby.

The 2019 PG 14U Player of the Year, Johnson has appeared in 218 career PG tournament games in which he is a career .380 hitter with 19 home runs and 131 RBI’s, as well as 105 stolen bases. A standout for Mays High School (GA), the power-hitting middle infielder should be considered as a lock to go in the Top 5 picks overall in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Elijah Green

If Johnson isn’t the No. 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, it will likely be Green who very easily could’ve potentially been the top pick in this year’s draft. After batting .321 at IMG Academy (FL) during the spring season, Green posted a strong summer on the travel baseball circuit to re-affirm his top ranking in the Perfect Game Class of 2022 player rankings.

The Miami commit has one of the best combinations of power and speed in this draft class, as well as an elite defensive outfielder. A Windermere, FL native, Green should also be considered as a lock to be a Top 5 overall pick, and is arguably the favorite to go No. 1 overall.

Dylan Lesko

Undoubtedly the top high school pitcher in the 2022 draft class is Lesko, a hard-throwing right-hander from Buford, GA. Already ranked as the top arm, Lesko backed up that hype with a dominant high school season which included an 11-0 record with 112 strikeouts, as well as an impressive summer with the East Cobb Astros.

The Vanderbilt commit is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Perfect Game history which includes 39 All-Tournament teams, 21 team championships, and a seven-time MVPitcher. Displaying an electric fastball that combines with strong command with a changeup and curveball as well, Lesko is one of the top high school pitching draft prospects in recent years and should be the top arm selected.

Druw Jones

The son of former Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones, the outfielder is a dark horse to go No. 1 overall. The Suwannee, GA native has posted an impressive summer run on the travel baseball team playing with Phillies Scout Team, and continues to set himself apart as one of the top overall athletes available.

Similar to previous names, Jones has turned in a storied career at Perfect Game tournaments including a lifetime .435 hitter with 10 home runs and 177 RBI’s across 227 games, as well as a five-time WWBA MVPlayer. Displaying elite tool grades across the board, could Jones be the sleeper to go No. 1 overall?
