2025 Georgia High School Football Rankings: Class 6A

Top 10 Georgia High School Football Teams in Class 6A

Updated 9/2/2025

For the second straight week, and with their backs against the wall, the Grayson Rams came from behind and won against a highly ranked, out-of-state opponent. They maintain their top spot in our 2025 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A.

Thompson’s Warriors are the defending Class 7A state champion from Alabama, and for most of the game, it appeared that Grayson’s 17-game win streak that dates back to Week 2 of last year was about to come to an end. Playing in place of injured starter Travis Burgess, backup quarterback Deuce Smith led Grayson on a 99-yard drive and a 71-yard drive to overcome a fourth-quarter deficit and send the game into overtime. The Rams won 24-23 after denying the Warriors on a 2-point conversion.

The Colquitt County Packers suffered their first loss of the season with a 21-7 defeat at the hands of the North Gwinnett Bulldogs. The Packers swap places with the Bulldogs, dropping to No. 9 while the Bulldogs climb into the No. 10 spot.

Grayson won a come-from-behind game against a tough Rabun Gap-Nacoochee squad and remains atop our 2025 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A.

Buford pulled away from Benedictine in the second half to win going away at Savannah.

Two teams debut in the rankings this week as head coach Kareem Reid’s McEachern Indians enter at No. 8 after impressive back-to-back wins against Walton and North Cobb. Norcross and head coach Corey Richardson enter the Top 10 this week after an impressive showing against Mill Creek 45-28.

North Cobb and Collins Hill fall out of the rankings, but don’t be surprised to find both returning at some point this season.

Grayson flexed its muscles with a 48-point win over Collins Hill in Week 1 and, in the process, remains at No. 1 in our 2025 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A.

Buford may be the best No. 2 team in the state, as they looked solid in their win against Milton.

Douglas County actually won on the strength of their defense in a 21-7 victory over North Gwinnett. Many were expecting more output from Douglas County’s explosive offense, but that wasn’t necessary with their defense holding North Gwinnett to a lone TD.

Preseason – Updated 7/22/2025

Here are ITG Next’s 2025 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 6A.

1. Grayson

Grayson will be the team to beat once again in 2025 following their run to the state title last year after an 0-1 start to the season.

Linebacker Tyler Atkinson is one of the most explosive defenders in the state, and quarterback Travis Burgess has worked hard at his craft this offseason.

Look for the Rams and head coach Santavious Bryant to make a shot at the repeat in 2025.

2. Buford

As always there’s no shortage of talent at Buford. The question is if head coach Bryant Appling’s Wolves can find the right balance this season and meet the always-high expectations in Gloryland.

3. Collins Hill

They say defense wins championships. Head coach Drew Swick and his Collins Hill program will once again roll out one of the best defensive units in the state, led by Deuce Geralds, Katrell Webb, Stephen Barjolo, Jack Hernandez, and Jeremiah Proctor.

The offense will be led by quarterback Makyree “Dudda” Cross, but expect AJ Bush to get plenty of snaps this season too.

4. Douglas County

Get ready for a lot of new names at QB. Douglas County will miss quarterback DJ Bordeaux, who returned to Colorado following the 2024 season. Taking over at QB is three-star recruit and former Dutchtown quarterback Michael Johnson, who committed to Utah this offseason.

Also returning are leading rusher Zamarcus Lindley and top receivers Aaron Gregory and Devin Carter.

5. Carrollton

Carrollton will be without Julian “JuJu” Lewis under center for the first time in four seasons as he has graduated and moved on to Colorado. Taking over the offense in 2025 will be three-star recruit Mason Holtzclaw, a senior who transferred in from South Carolina this offseason.

Trojans fans are still looking for that elusive state championship. Will this be their year?

6. North Gwinnett

North Gwinnett is another team with a new face at quarterback as left-handed Elam Rahman takes over for head coach Eric Godfree’s Bulldogs this year. He has played well in 7-on-7s this offseason.

Returning to the defense are linebackers Jake Godfree and Braylon Jackson and defensive back Chauncey Davis.

7. Colquitt County

Colquitt County will once again be the favorite in Region 1-6A, but head coach Sean Calhoun has some holes to fill this year if his Packers are going to threaten once again for the big prize.

Ryan Fitzgerald was quite the weapon in a long line of top kickers in Moultrie. Don’t think for a minute that he was just a kicker, either. He was a 3-point guarantee once the Pack got to the opponent’s 40-yard line.

8. North Cobb

North Cobb’s offense received a tremendous boost in the offseason with the addition of quarterback Teddy Jarrard, who transferred across town from North Cobb Christian.

9. Lowndes

The key for Lowndes’ success this season will be the defense. Head coach Adam Carter’s squad lost 10-of-11 starters from last year’s team.

The good news is that the Vikings will be stout on the offensive line with six linemen returning.

The rest of the offense features two exciting playmakers in quarterback Jayce “Juice” Johnson and rising star wide receiver Kaevone Thomas.

Keep an eye on the Vikings this year.

10. Valdosta

Valdosta will be loaded with speed and skill talent from sideline to sideline in 2025.

The biggest question marks for the Wildcats this year could be their defensive and offensive lines, which are a bit undersized, and QB.

Quarterback Todd Robinson will be missed. His replacement could be either new arrival Tyrieke Wade or returning junior Tripp Perry. Wade is originally from Cairo, Georgia, but played in Texas last season, and Perry played sparingly for Valdosta in 2024.
