It is no secret that high school baseball has seen its fair share of special players over the last couple of decades, some of which have gone on to become all-time greats at the highest levels of the sport.
When looking at the positions of these players, outfield in particular is a position group that might stick out above the rest in recent memory. A group that includes current MLB greats, high school baseball has produced some special players in recent years, something that will continue in 2022 with names such as Jones, Green, and more.
When looking at the talent and potential of some of the top baseball outfielders in the Class of 2022, the class overall has the potential to be one of the best in recent memory, and is headlined by two clear top names, both of which are cemented in the conversation for the No. 1 prospect overall – Druw Jones and Elijah Green.
MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 overall prospect in the 2022 MLB Draft, Jones is the son of former Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones, and attends Wesleyan High School in Georgia. Also a Vanderbilt commit, Jones recently spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies Scout Team this past summer, where he has continued to showcase his exciting five-tool potential.
Joining Jones in the conversation for the top overall 2022 high school baseball prospect is Green, an outfielder from IMG Academy in Florida that displays similar five-tool potential to Jones. Also having played with the Phillies Scout Team, the Miami commit has elite speed both defensively and on the base paths, as well as some of the top power in the 2022 MLB Draft.
While there may certainly be a gap between Jones and Green compared to some of the other outfielders in the 2022 class, this group as a whole also has a chance to have a few others likely selected in the first two rounds of the upcoming draft. These names include Hamilton’s (AZ) Gavin Turley, Palo Alto’s (CA) Henry Bolte, Bishop Gorman’s (NV) Justin Crawford, and more.
The Class of 2022 has some truly elite outfield talent that will be taking center stage this spring as the 2022 high school baseball season begins. Sit back and enjoy watching names such as Jones and Green this year as well, because this group overall has the potential to be truly special.
