Top High School Baseball Player in each Class for 2021-2024
Being rated as the top high school baseball player in the country for your class almost always means that one thing will be a 100% guarantee – you will be selected as a very high pick in that year’s MLB draft, perhaps even in the top 5 picks overall.
To be ranked as the top player in your class, however, you need to dominate both high school and travel baseball every season throughout your high school career.
That is exactly what these players have done. While some have shined for years, others are quickly emerging as the top prospects in their respective classes by having phenomenal freshman or sophomore seasons.
Let’s take a look at the top baseball player in each class for 2021-2024, according to Perfect Game.
2021 – Jordan Lawlar
Widely regarded as the top high school baseball player in the country, Jordan Lawlar has been a standout in the high school and travel baseball scene for years. Lawlar, a shortstop from Irving, TX, has emerged as one of the best, if not the best, high school baseball players in the country of any class. The Vanderbilt commit has been a standout for Jesuit Dallas, as well as the Dallas Tigers travel team where he has become one of the best overall players. Lawlar is a five-tool shortstop with tremendous potential, and is already off to a great start in his senior season. Lawlar is projected to be the first high school player selected in the upcoming 2021 MLB draft.
2022 – Elijah Green
The top player in the class of 2022 according to Perfect Game is Elijah Green. Green is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound outfielder from Windermere, FL who has played for IMG Academy, as well as the San Francisco Giants scout team. The Miami commit is regarded as an outstanding athlete with very good speed and power bat. Because Green is a phenomenal outfielder, he has all the potential to become a top MLB draft pick.
2023 – Thomas White
The first pitcher on the list, Thomas White is ranked by Perfect Game as the top player in the class of 2023. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-hander is from Rowley, MA and has played for Phillips Academy, as well as with Legends Prospects. White projects as a very good starting pitcher with low-90s velocity, a lot of movement and a consistent strike thrower.
2024 – Derek Curiel
The 2020 PG 14U Player of the Year, Derek Curiel, is ranked as the top player in the class of 2024 by Perfect Game. Curiel is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound outfielder from West Covina, CA where he has played for Orange Lutheran and MVP Hustle. Curiel projects as a good defender, as well as a consistent hitter.
While each of these players will continue to improve, their current talents and production set them apart from the crowd. Look for Lawlar, Green, White and Curiel to dominate the professional, college, high school and travel baseball scenes for years to come.
