Hueytown QB Earl Woods Named Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year

Hueytown junior quarterback Earl Woods was named this past week as the 2021 Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, joining Jameis Winston (2011) as the only Golden Gophers to receive the award.

Leading the Golden Gophers to the Class 6A state championship game in the process, Woods posted a phenomenal 2021 season in which the junior ranked among the tops in the state in both passing and rushing. In all, Woods threw for a total of 3,071 yards and 32 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,120 yards and 35 touchdowns on the ground.

Woods will return for Hueytown in 2022-23 as one of the top overall quarterbacks in the state.
