2025 Alabama High School Football Rankings: Classes 7A-1A Preseason

The 2025 Alabama high school football season has now officially arrived.

Yes, this week, high school football games officially begin across the state of Alabama, and will be played weekly throughout the conclusion of the season in December.

So, ahead of the start of the 2025 Alabama high school football season, let’s take a look at our preseason Top 10 rankings for each classification entering the year, which includes the AHSAA and AISA.

Class 7A

  1. Thompson
  2. Central-Phenix City
  3. Hoover
  4. Auburn
  5. Hewitt-Trussville
  6. Mary G. Montgomery
  7. Opelika
  8. Vestavia Hills
  9. Enterprise
  10. James Clemens

Beginning with Alabama’s highest classification, the Thompson Warriors sit atop our Class 7A preseason rankings. The Warriors won the 7A state title a year ago at 11-3 overall, and in 2025, return the likes of quarterback Trent Seaborn and edge rusher Cameron Pritchett, in addition to others under one of the state’s top head coaches, Mark Freeman.

Rounding out 7A, Central-Phenix City is yet again a state title contender under head coach Patrick Nix, while the likes of Hoover, Auburn, and Hewitt-Trussville will also be among the state’s elite this fall. Others such as Mary G. Montgomery, Opelika, and Vestavia Hills also should be contenders in 7A as well.

Class 6A

  1. Parker
  2. Saraland
  3. Clay-Chalkville
  4. Oxford
  5. Spain Park
  6. Pike Road
  7. Mountain Brook
  8. Muscle Shoals
  9. Spanish Fort
  10. Benjamin Russell

Class 6A should be among Alabama’s most entertaining classifications this fall, with 2024 state champion Parker sitting atop the preseason Top 10 rankings. The Thundering Herd went 14-1 overall a year ago, outscoring opponents a combined 520-151 along the way, and return a talented roster once again headlined by defensive tackle Vodney Cleveland.

Elsewhere in a loaded Class 6A, Saraland and Clay-Chalkville are state title contenders yet again, while Spain Park is another notable team to watch as the Jaguars return quarterback Brock Bradley. Benjamin Russell is also a team to know, as the Wildcats are led by standout wide receiver Cederian Morgan, as well as a new head coach in Kirk Johnson.

Class 5A

  1. Moody
  2. Vigor
  3. Montgomery Catholic
  4. Central-Clay County
  5. Williamson
  6. Ramsay
  7. Fairview
  8. Leeds
  9. Guntersville
  10. Corner

Sitting atop Class 5A entering the season are the Moody Blue Devils, led by head coach Jake Ganus. The Blue Devils are coming off an 11-3 overall season that resulted in 5A runner-up finish, and return one of the state’s top juniors in defensive star Ba’Roc Willis.

Montgomery Catholic is also coming off an undefeated 14-0 season that resulted in the 5A state title, while Vigor is a notable team to know led by standout rusher Jabarrius Garror. A few other programs are also among the classification’s best entering the season such as Central-Clay County and Williamson.

Class 4A

  1. Jackson
  2. St. Michael Catholic
  3. Cherokee County
  4. West Morgan
  5. Anniston
  6. Madison Academy
  7. Pleasant Grove
  8. Tallassee
  9. Good Hope
  10. North Jackson

One of the state’s top teams, regardless of classification, the Jackson Aggies sit atop the Class 4A rankings entering the season. The Aggies are coming off a 14-1 overall season in which Jackson won the 4A state title, and will return a loaded roster this fall headlined by the trio of Landon Duckworth, Ezavier Crowell, and Keeyun Chapman.

Another notable team to watch for in 4A will be St. Michael Catholic, who return one of the state’s top quarterbacks in junior Gunner Rivers. Cherokee County and West Morgan will also be program’s to watch for in particular.

Class 3A

  1. Mars Hill Bible
  2. Fyffe
  3. Piedmont
  4. T.R. Miller
  5. Geraldine
  6. Gordo
  7. Houston Academy
  8. Southside-Selma
  9. Bayside Academy
  10. Winfield

A deep classification full of talented teams, Mars Hill Bible sits atop the Class 3A rankings in the preseason. The Panthers finished last season at 14-1 overall to win the 3A state title.

Elsewhere, Fyffe will once again be a team atop 3A this season, while the same can also be said for Piedmont. Houston Academy is also a team to watch coming off a 3A runner-up finish a year ago.

Class 2A

  1. Reeltown
  2. Pisgah
  3. Coosa Christian
  4. Tuscaloosa Academy
  5. Cottonwood
  6. Winston County
  7. Clarke County
  8. Vincent
  9. Sulligent
  10. Highland Home

Sitting atop the Class 2A preseason rankings are the Reeltown Rebels, the defending state champions. Reeltown was one of the state’s top lower classification teams a year ago with a 14-1 overall record to win the 2A state title, outscoring opponents a combined 589-118.

Coosa Christian is also an intriguing team to watch, as Rush Propst takes over as the head coach this fall. The same can be said for the likes of Pisgah and Tuscaloosa Academy, the latter of which was the 2A runner-up a year ago.

Class 1A

  1. Wadley
  2. Leroy
  3. Maplesville
  4. Sweet Water
  5. McKenzie
  6. Hackleburg
  7. Spring Garden
  8. Elba
  9. Berry
  10. Lynn

The final AHSAA classification, Wadley sits at Class 1A entering the year. Wadley won the 1A state title a year ago at an undefeated 13-0 overall, and return one of the state’s best prospects this season in two-way star Jaquez Wilkes.

Following the Bulldogs are notable programs such as Leroy and Maplesville, the latter of which was the 1A runner-up a year ago, and also return one of the state’s top sophomores in Nehemiah McCary. Sweet Water and McKenzie will also be program’s to keep an eye on.

AISA

  1. Chambers
  2. South Choctaw
  3. Lowndes
  4. Patrician
  5. Monroe

Concluding with the AISA, the Chambers Rebels are sitting atop a combined Classes 2A-3A top five ranking entering the year. The Rebels won the Class 3A state title a year ago with an overall record of 12-1, the program’s second consecutive season winning a championship.

Elsewhere, South Choctaw is coming off an undefeated 13-0 overall season in which they claimed the 2A state title. Lowndes is coming off an 11-1 overall season in which the Rebels finished as the 2A runner-up.
