4 Questions With Colquitt County’s Head Football Coach Sean Calhoun

ITG Next spoke with the new Colquitt County Head Football Coach, Sean Calhoun, about his excitement on returning to Georgia and the team’s goals for the upcoming season.

Q. Coach Calhoun, how excited are you about returning to Georgia and especially Colquitt County to lead the Packers football program?
A. My family and I are very excited to take over such a storied program. It is such an honor to become a part of this program, school system and community. This is a very special place with very special people and we are humbled to be a part.

Q. What started you on the path to coaching in the very beginning?
A. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to coach. I was not a good football player but I knew I loved the game of football and wanted to be around it for the rest of my life. Being a coach is the closest way to do all of that.

Q. What are your goals for the football program at Colquitt County?
A. We will have two football goals: 1. Win the region. 2. Win the state championship. I want to keep it very simple. There are many aspects of football that get you to those two goals that are achieved weekly and during each game. Off of the field, I want our players to be the very best students in our schools and the very best citizens of this community.

Q. What can you tell us about assembling your staff of assistants?
A. This is the most important piece of the puzzle that I have to put together. It all starts with the coaching staff. It’s all about a fit first and foremost. I want to have very good football coaches but most importantly I have to have very good people. I want our players to be around very good people and role models.
