Lowndes Head Football Coach

Former Thomasville Coach Tabbed to Lead Vikings

Lowndes High School didn’t have to go too far to find their new head football coach: Thomasville’s Zach Grage has been named as Jamey DuBose’s successor. The announcement came Tuesday evening, almost two weeks to the day after DuBose released a statement saying that he was stepping down after serving two years as the Lowndes head football coach.

Grage leaves Thomasville High School, where he has been the head coach for the past six seasons. He led the Bulldogs to a 13-2 season, which included a region title (5-0 region record) and a trip to the Class 2A state finals last season, where they fell to the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane 21-7. Grage was 54-23 in his six seasons at Thomasville, winning the Region 1-2A title three of those years.

He took over a Bulldogs team that had just finished 1-8 the previous year and missed the playoffs. It didn’t take Grage long to get the ‘Dogs football program turned around, as he led the Bulldogs to the playoffs every year, including a 5-5 record and a No. 2 seed in region play in his first season.

The next year saw Thomasville finishing 12-1, winning the region, and advancing to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. In 2019, Grage once again led Thomasville deep into the playoffs, this time coming within a game of the state title game, advancing to the semi-finals.

Thomasville wasn’t the only team Grage enjoyed success with. He served as the Colquitt County offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach under head coach Rush Propst from 2009 to 2014. That 2014 season saw Grage lead an offense that was a major part of Colquitt County finishing undefeated and winning the state championship.

Grage is married to wife Mandy Grage, and they have three children: Noah, 10; Daniel, 8; and Luke, 6.

Grage received the Hughston Clinic Co-Coach of the Year award at last year’s annual ITG Next South Georgia High School Football Banquet.
