Top 5 Unique High School Sports Uniforms

High school uniforms are a sign of pride in your school. Uniforms are usually very basic and are meant to be an easy and practical way to differentiate teams; however, these athletes are showing that you can step on the field in style. Here are some of the most unique high school sports uniforms today.

Atlantic High School – Delray Beach, FL

Atlantic High School is a public high school located in Delray Beach, Florida. Known for its academics, many students attend the school because of its International Baccalaureate program and ranking as a top-rated school for many years.

Atlantic High School, originally named Seacrest High School, was built in 1949 as a racially segregated school for white students in Delray Beach. African American students living in the area attended Carver High School, which later became Carver Middle School. The school began the process of desegregation in 1961 when a woman by the name of Yvonne Lee entered the school. She was one of only four African American students attending the all-white school that year.

In 1970, Carver High School closed, and its students merged with Seacrest, which was renamed Atlantic High School. The new school adopted the colors of Seacrest High School, green and white, and the mascot of Carver High School, the Eagle. In 2012, the team made the news for their unique, one-of-a-kind uniforms, which consisted of a neon green and dark green color block design. This ensemble was a showstopper on the field.

What I love the most about this look is the commitment. The commitment to the green color block uniform, the green helmet with the wings, and the seamless dark and neon green shoes. It’s a lot going on for sure, but you can definitely tell they are proud to be an eagle. According to Bleacher Report, these unique high school uniforms were donated by Delray Beach nonprofit Prep and Sports and Delray 21.

Oakdale High School – Oakdale, CA

Next up is Oakdale High School, which was established in 1893 and is located in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District in Oakdale, California. Oakdale offers many sports including basketball, football, water polo, cross country, and many more. Oakdale is known to have many notable alumni including Bruce Coslet, who is a former NLF player and coach, and Eddie LeBaron, who was an NFL player for the Washington Redskins, a four-time pro bowler, and featured in the Hall of Fame.

The Oakdale Mustangs took the field in multicolored camouflage jerseys. Now I must say these uniforms aren’t my favorite. But even though I’m not a huge fan of the jerseys, I am a fan of the message. If you look on the back of the jersey, you will see their last names replaced with the word “Freedom.” This message was to pay tribute to 9/11 and all the people that we lost.

Pinnacle High School – North Valley Phoenix, Arizona

Pinnacle High School is a public high school in North Valley Phoenix, Arizona. This school opened in 2000 and is a part of the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The students are called the Pinnacle Pioneers, and the school’s mascot is called Pioneer Pete.

Now, the Pinnacle Pioneers football team takes show stopping uniforms to a whole new level. These uniforms are unique due to the uniform being entirely camouflage from head to toe. Traditionally, it is patterned on the top and solid on the bottom, but the Pioneers decided on a black and white camouflage jersey with the bottoms to match.

Even though I’m not a huge fan of camouflage, I actually really love how cohesive these unique uniforms look. Although the color palette is very muted, the pattern definitely speaks for itself.

Bonanza High School – Las Vegas, NV

Bonanza High School opened in 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was the ninth school to open in that area. When the school first opened in the 1970s, it won many state championships in basketball, wrestling, volleyball, tennis, and golf.

Today, Bonanza is known for its tennis and lacrosse programs, with the tennis team winning the 4A Nevada State Championship from 2001-05, boys lacrosse winning three consecutive times, and the women’s lacrosse team winning four consecutive times.

Notable Bonanza alumni include Scott Piercy, a PGA Tour professional golfer; Lance Gross, an actor; and Annie Black, a politician.

The Bonanza flag football team in Nevada premiered their unique yellow and brown uniforms that definitely show their school spirit.

Now, for me, the shower stopper is the pattern. Since their mascot is a Bengal, they decided to go with yellow Bengal stripes on the back of the jersey and a fully striped pant to match. Even though I’m not a huge fan of the yellow and brown color combination, I really love how much detail and heart they added to this uniform. You can definitely tell they’re proud to be a Bonanza Bengal.

Theodore Roosevelt High School – Washington, DC

Last but not least we have Theodore Roosevelt High School. Plans for the school began in 1920, and it opened in 1932. The school included business-oriented classes to accommodate white students who had previously been served by the Business High School. The school was integrated in 1953; it was one of the first schools in the District of Columbia to do so.

Now we all know that blue and orange is a great color combination since we’ve seen this displayed many times with popular teams like the Florida Gators and the Denver Broncos, but the Rough Riders decided to put their own spin on it.

These uniforms are sleek and cohesive and what I like most about these uniforms is the stripe detailing going from the front of the uniform to the back. It’s not too much, but they definitely make a statement.
