Top Football Recruits in Georgia Remain Uncommitted as Early Signing Approaches

With playoffs in motion, Georgia’s football season will be ending this month. Early signing begins in less than two weeks, and some top football recruits in Georgia remain uncommitted.

Jake Garcia is a fan favorite. His name has been circulating in headlines since the season started. Garcia is a four-star, pro-style quarterback who was previously committed to the University of Southern California. When California’s high school football season was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, he transferred to Valdosta High School to play out his senior season.

“I’m really excited about the decision,” Garcia told Greg Biggins, a reporter from 24/7 Sports. “For me, it was big to play as a senior. I need those game reps, and this is going to be a big for me mentally as well in terms of preparing for college.”

He had intentions of graduating early in December and continuing on to college come the spring semester. After only one game at Valdosta, Garcia was ruled ineligible to play by the GHSA and transferred to Grayson High School. In his time at Grayson, he has played only five games with 778 total yards passing, eight touchdowns passing, and an average of 155 yards passing per game.

Fans were looking forward to seeing him play for the USC Trojans until last Thursday. Garcia tweeted he would be decommitting from USC.

Many were taken aback by his statement, especially being that he had been committed for over a year. Garcia might end up at the University of Miami, which seems like his most likely contender. In the spring of 2019, Garcia made multiple visits to Miami along with an appearance at Miami’s Paradise Camp the following summer. The university is still in need of a quarterback from the Class of 2021, so their hopes are high that Garcia will be headed their way.

Trevin Wallace, a four-star recruit from Wayne County High School, decommitted from Boston College just last month. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound linebacker committed in early June with other offers from Auburn, Illinois, NC State, and many others.

Auburn has been the most proactive in their pursuit, but just weren’t able to snag him as early as Boston was. The program is in need of one to two LBs out of the ‘21 class, and Wallace is one they don’t plan on passing over. Wallace has also been in close contact with Ole Miss, another option. Both programs are still without commits for linebackers, but may make a recovery in the coming weeks.

Wallace is a swift, talented LB. He also ran track and field, which is a big factor in his speed and agility. He has made no announcement for his new decision, but one is expected to come in the following weeks.
