Top California High School Quarterbacks

As the game of football evolves, it becomes more and more quarterback-centric. They are the faces of NFL teams, and they are slowly now becoming the faces of college programs as well. High school football is no different, as having a top quarterback gives you a chance in every game and a real chance to compete with the best of the best. Many of the highly ranked high school football teams in California are led by some of the best quarterbacks in the state. That is no coincidence. In today’s game of football, your team will probably fare as well as your quarterback does. Here are some of the top California high school quarterbacks going into next season.

1. Elijah Brown, Mater Dei – Elijah Brown has a chance to be really special. As a freshman in his first year of high school football, he led the Mater Dei Monarchs to an undefeated season in the hardest high school football division in the nation and beat St. John Bosco in the Trinity League title game. Brown is a new face looking to add his name to a long lineage of great Mater Dei quarterbacks, including the No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2019 in Bryce Young. Mater Dei is a perennial powerhouse program, and a large part of that is their stellar play at quarterback. Brown has an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Mater Dei greats before him and continue to be one of the best quarterbacks in the nation for the next three years. Expect to see the Monarchs competing for the Trinity League title for the foreseeable future.

2. Maalik Murphy, Junipero Serra – Maalik Murphy is the top-ranked quarterback prospect from California in the Class of 2022. Unlike many other top players, Murphy is actually not from Southern California but rather from San Mateo, which is in the Bay Area. Murphy led the Padres to an undefeated record last season and helped the Padres dominate the West Catholic league, winning their league games by a combined score of 109-16. Murphy is committed to the University of Texas; look for him to be playing on Saturdays in a couple of years.

3. Noah Fifita, Servite – Noah Fifita is currently a three-star prospect in the Class of 2022. He is the quarterback for Servite, one of the best teams in California. They are also members of the famed Trinity League. Servite often gets overshadowed by Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, but Fifita deserves a lot of respect and attention for how he’s played the past three seasons. He put up astounding numbers in many games last season, including a 95% completion percentage and six total touchdowns against Orange Lutheran. He went undefeated against most of the Trinity League with multiple blowout wins, and while the Friars did lose to the two aforementioned top dogs, Fifita played well in those two matchups and kept the Friars competitive in both games. Look for him to have his best season yet going into his final year as Servite’s starting quarterback.
