Top 10 Running Backs Entering the 2025 Georgia High School Football Season

Georgia high school football is blessed with some great rushers, which made it tough to decide this year’s list of Top 10 running backs heading into the 2025 season.

1. Jonaz Walton | Central (Carrollton) | C/O 2026

Jonaz Walton is ITG Next’s top choice for the running back position – and for good reason. The four-star recruit is committed to Notre Dame, and one look at his career stats tells you why we chose him as the state’s top back.

As a three-year starter, he has averaged 8.3 yards per carry. That’s the guy you want with the ball in his hands when you need a first down.

He has over 4,700 yards rushing and close to 1,000 yards receiving as he heads into his senior season.

2. Jae Lamar | Colquitt County | C/O 2026

Jae Lamar of Colquitt County really emerged as a top running back last season, and he’ll be the focus of the Packers’ offense in 2025.

3. Amari Latimer | Sandy Creek | C/O 2026

Four-star back running back Amari Latimer will lead Sandy Creek this season as their go-to back.

He has been compared to older brother Geimere Latimer, who also played at Sandy Creek. With the older brother’s recent transfer to the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the younger brother’s commitment to play for the Badgers after he graduates high school, it seems that the two will be playing together again following the 2025 season.

4. Brayden Tyson | Brookwood | C/O 2027

Brayden Tyson averaged over 10 yards per carry and scored 26 TDs for Brookwood (Snellville) last year as a sophomore. His number of carries in 2024 was almost double that of his freshman year, and that number will only grow in 2025.

5. Carsyn Baker | Hughes | C/O 2026

Carsyn Baker will return for his senior season on a Hughes team that will depend on him more than ever in 2025 after losing many of their top scorers from last season’s state finals team. Baker committed to Florida earlier this offseason.

6. Jayreon Campbell | McEachern | C/O 2026

McEachern running back Jayreon Campbell is one of the best pure, complete backs I’ve ever witnessed. He’ll be showing his stuff for one more season of high school football before heading off to Indiana University, where he committed earlier this year.

7. Jerry “Andrew” Beard | Prince Avenue Christian | C/O 2027

Jerry “Andrew” Beard is not just one of the state’s top running backs, but he’s also a great receiver out of the backfield. He proved that last year in his sophomore season with over 1,900 yards rushing and 21 TDs along with 525 yards receiving and five TDs through the air.

8. Caden Waye | Ola | C/O 2027

Four-star recruit Caden Waye is actually a standout two-way player for the Ola Mustangs. As a sophomore last year, he rushed for 1,194 yards from his RB position, and he made 51 tackles and had four interceptions from his safety spot.

His college offers are many, including Ole Miss, Purdue, and Texas.

9. Sedric Addison | Peachtree Ridge | C/O 2026

Peachtree Ridge’s Sedric Addison is a Boston College commit.

“He (Addison) is a very patient runner, and then when the hole opens up, watch out,” said Matt Helmrich, Peachtree Ridge head football coach. “He runs so hard, twisting, turning, and diving for every yard he can get.”

Helmrich added that Addison isn’t just a hard runner, but he’s a fast one, too.

“He is almost 6 foot and 205 pounds and runs a 10.8 (second) 100-meter (dash),” Helmrich said.

10. Xavier Rucker | Allatoona | C/O 2026

Xavier Rucker is a complete back who is a great receiver out of the backfield and one of the state’s top running backs. In 2024 he averaged over 6 yards per carry and had a combined total of over 1,300 yards rushing and receiving.
