Shawn Murphy, Unity Reed LB, Wins 2021 Butkus Award
One of the most-prestigious honors for a defensive player in football is the Butkus Award, an annual award given to the nation’s top linebacker for that season. The Butkus Award for the 2021 high school football season has been given to Unity Reed (VA) linebacker Shawn Murphy.

A four-star Alabama commit, Murphy collected a total of 113 tackles during the 2021 season, as well as 20 TFL, six sacks, and two interceptions.

The No. 57 overall player in the Class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite, Murphy is also rated as No. 5 linebacker nationally, as well as the No. 2 overall player in the state of Virginia.
