Ponte Vedra Football 2022 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Ponte Vedra football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 4-6
  • Points Scored: 180
  • Points Allowed: 157

Key Losses

Ponte Vedra loses a few key names on the offensive side of the ball, in particular in the running game with Mikey Stephens, Nolan Parlette, and Bobby Kegley. Each was among the Sharks’ leading rushers last season, and accounted for a vast majority of Ponte Vedra’s production on the ground.

The biggest losses on defense come from two of the Sharks’ top tacklers in Luke Perris and Aiden McCabe, a duo that combined for over 160 tackles a year ago. Ponte Vedra also is tasked with replacing a key name up front in Evan Fleischer, as well as a few other names elsewhere on defense, including Mason Flores and Sam Soares.

Who’s Back

The Sharks’ biggest offensive returnee is probably quarterback Nathan Bunkosky, who not only led Ponte Vedra in passing last season, but was a significant part of the running game as well. Corey Bloss is another key name to know in the running game, and a few of the Sharks’ top receivers, such as Wyatt Rogers, Ryan Smith, Alex Cotto, and Griffin Owen, all return.

Leading tackler Trooper Price is back to lead the Sharks’ defense, while many of Ponte Vedra’s notable offensive returnees also are poised make an impact on defense. The Sharks’ defensive front should be a strength, with Kingston Kamal, Tripp Field, and Nick Grieco all returning.

What to Expect

Having missed the playoffs last season, Ponte Vedra now has to replace a number of key names – but the Sharks also return a significant amount of production. Those returning players could prove to be difference makers, as Ponte Vedra has an experienced offense and a strong front seven on defense. Expect the Sharks to be in playoff contention toward the end of the year and for Ponte Vedra to potentially be a surprise team in Class 4S-Region 1.

Prediction

Ponte Vedra will contend for a playoff spot this season.
