Wrestling
North Forsyth wrestler Artemis Eaton, a senior, won her fourth straight wrestling state championship with a 41-0 record in her senior season, capping an undefeated career that saw her never lose to another wrestler in four seasons of wrestling.
Lumpkin County wrestler Greta Garbuzovas, a senior, capped her high school career by winning her fourth state championship in four years as a varsity wrestler. She finished this season with a perfect 45-0 record.
Lovett wrestler Elle Kaufmann, a senior, claimed her fourth consecutive state championship, becoming one of just three female wrestlers in Georgia to win a state title in each year of her four years of high school eligibility.
Basketball
Pope guard Abbey Bensman, a senior, scored 41 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, had eight steals, and dished out seven assists to lead the Greyhounds in their 87-42 win over Riverwood, then led all scorers with 40 points in Pope’s 66-63 win over Woodstock in their Region 6-5A tournament contest.
Lassiter guard Sophie Hortman, a senior, had a big night against Woodstock, scoring 34 points while pulling down three rebounds, coming away with six steals, and one blocked shot to lead the Trojans to a 66-65 win during Saturday’s Region 6-5A tournament game.
Cherokee point guard Ansley Dunn, a sophomore, received the “Warriors Mentality Chain” after leading her team with 26 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot in their 70-58 tournament win over North Cobb on Friday.
Lanier Christian Academy’s Adelyn Gough scored 12 points and pulled down 17 rebounds along with 4 blocked shots to lead the Lightning’s effort against Harvester Christian Academy last week.
Athens Christian’s Josi Vaughn, a senior, had a 24-point performance with seven 3-pointers, along with five assists, two rebounds, two steals, and one block in the Lady Eagles’ 55-47 playoff win over Loganville. The Athens Christian all-time leading scorer now has 1,574 career points after the win.
Toombs County guard Taylor Bland, a sophomore, led all scorers with 23 points including six 3-pointers in the Lady Bulldogs’ region victory over Savannah Christian.
Ridgeland point guard JaMiah Lewis, a senior, scored a career-high 34 points with five assists, five rebounds, three steals, and one block in her final regular season game, a 70-45 win against Northwest Whitfield. Her team is 21-3 as they prepare for the playoffs.
