Nope: Coyotes Record Fifth Consecutive No-Hitter

With a 2016 record of 7-3 overall and 4-0 in league play, the Sonoma Academy Coyotes (Santa Rosa, California) have taken the collective wind out of their opponents’ sails as of late.

Unless you count the wind coming from their bats as they continue to come up empty at the plate.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2016, the Coyotes completed a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Rincon Christian Eagles (Santa Rosa, California).  The no-no was impressive on its own, but only becomes more astounding when realization sinks in that this is only the most recent of a string of them for the Coyotes.  Tuesday’s feat brings the team’s grand total to five in a row.

Senior pitcher Dylan De La Montoya picked up the win in the Rincon Christian game, bringing his season total to six.  He is responsible for four of the no-hitter victories during the streak, and his no-hit innings total has reached 19 in a row; as a team, the streak currently sits at 29 consecutive innings with no hits.  Teammate Ethan Jones recorded the win in the team’s other no-hitter this season.

The state record currently sits 24 1/3, which was set by Steven Perry of the Maxwell Panthers (Maxwell, California) in 2011.  During that same season, the Panthers finished with 11 no-hitters (along with seven one-hitters).  Perry also set a state record for consecutive no-hitters with four and finished the year with a total of five.

Sonoma Academy will look to extend their streak of no-hitter to six on Friday against the Upper Lake Cougars, who are 1-8 on the year (1-3 in league play).
