We tell you everything you need to know about the 2025 Mitchell County High School football team in this preview, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Eagles this season.
2024 Season Stats
- Overall Record: 9-3
- Points Scored: 351
- Points Allowed: 299
Key Roster Losses
According to head football coach Dondrial Pinkins, Mitchell County will be without right tackle Fenadale Hicks Jr., who has moved on to play collegiately at Eastern Kentucky.
Speedy wide receiver and cornerback Leonte Thomas helped lead the Eagles to two track state championships and had a 60-yard kickoff return for a TD last season. He has also moved on to the next phase of his football career, signing with Georgia Military College.
The team will be without their leading rusher from 2024 with the graduation of running back Nicholas Williams, who had 587 yards rushing last year.
Halfback and linebacker Kendrick Cooper and right guard and defensive end D’Armonta Jackson have also graduated.
Key Players Returning
Pinkins welcomes back eight offensive starters and six defensive starters in 2025.
Among those coming back are running back and outside linebacker Marcus Vicks and senior wide receiver and cornerback Darrius Robinson, who led the team with two interceptions last season, one of which was returned for a TD.
Senior dual-threat quarterback Jonathan Isom is back. In 2024 Isom had 931 yards passing with 12 TD passes as well as 13 TDs rushing and 632 yards on the ground. He also returns at free safety, where he came up with three interceptions last year.
Others returning are wide receiver and outside linebacker Quinton McCraw; linebacker Cameron Vicks; wide receiver Jerran Grissom; and offensive and defensive linemen Kaden Murray, Paul Davis, and Antiquon Bell Jr.
What to Expect From the Mitchell County Eagles in 2025
Pinkins is excited about the experience and talent returning this season.
“This senior class will arguably be the most talented and hard-working group we’ve had since my return to Mitchell County (from Pelham), and their leadership will be the determining factor in how far we go this season,” Pinkins said.
Pinkins said he put together a competitive non-region schedule to reach bigger goals for his team.
“We’ve intentionally built a competitive non-region schedule to prepare us for a challenging region slate,” he said. “Our ultimate goal is to win a state championship, but our primary focus is to win a region title first. Achieving that will put us in the best possible position to make a deep playoff run.”
2025 Season Prediction
The 2025 season will be a big one for this talented group of Eagles. I see them going 10-3 and making a run at that state title.
