4 Questions With Dondrial Pinkins

4 Questions With Dondrial Pinkins, Pelham Football Head Coach

Q: A lot of our readers may not know that you were a great high school football player. Where did you grow up playing?
A: I was born and raised in Camilla, Georgia. I played football for coach Tommy Sosebee at Mitchell-Baker High School.

Q: Did you go on to play college football?
A: I was blessed to continue my education at the University of South Carolina and played for legendary coach Lou Holtz from 2000 to 2004.
Q: How strange is it, then, that you are now the head coach at what was your biggest rival?
A: Initially, it felt strange in the sense that you usually choose a side when it comes to a rivalry and that doesn’t change. However, I was in a position where I was blessed with an opportunity to make a difference at my rivalry school, and some people loved it, and others felt differently. Rivalries have always divided families, friendships, and in this case it has brought old enemies closer together. In my opinion, this rivalry has become more meaningful than ever before with Pelham winning five of the last seven contests, with seven former Eagles being a part of those staffs.
Q: So your team is in the playoffs after winning the region championship. How does it feel to be here after your team almost wasn’t able to recover from COVID-19 related issues early in the season?
A: Winning a region championship is always great because prior to the start of the season, two of our goals were to win a region and state championship. Despite all the issues we have dealt with relating to COVID-19 this season, our student-athletes have been able to overcome all the adversity and continue striving for the ultimate goal we set at the beginning of the season.
