Matthew Kerrigan Leads Lowndes Baseball into 2026

The Lowndes High Vikings baseball squad will be looking to make another run at a state championship after falling to champion Walton in last year’s GHSA Class 6A baseball championship series.

The Raiders swept the best-of-three series with back-to-back seven-run victories, winning game one 7-0, then winning game two 10-3.

One of the reasons the Vikings head coach Ryan Page should be optimistic heading into this season is having Matthew Kerrigan, the reigning Georgia high school Class 6A Player of the Year, not only returning to the team but also returning to the pitching mound, where he’ll likely be the team’s ace and top starter.

The all-around baseball standout contributed in a big way last season as the Vikings’ leadoff hitter and playing in the outfield.

In fact, Kerrigan played so well that he earned GHSA Class 6A Player of the Year honors. He finished the season with a .384 batting average.

But, two years ago, while pitching for Lowndes in the second inning of the 2024 state championship game as a sophomore, he suffered a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, commonly referred to as a UCL.
