The 2025 Crisp County Cougar football team finished with a 4-7 overall record under first-year head coach Justin Newman. But, three of those wins were all-important region victories, giving the Cougars a 3-1 region record and the No. 2 seed in the tough Region 3-2A.
Despite what seemed like a rough debut for Newman and his Crisp County team, a close look gave you the real story, which was a team that had gone toe-to-toe through one of the toughest schedules in the state. They fell by just a touchdown or less in six of the seven defeats, with the only lopsided loss a 30-7 defeat against Fitzgerald in Week 3.
They also ended with a 4-3 record down the stretch and will look to carry that momentum into the offseason and into the 2026 campaign.
With the graduation of the team’s standout passing game duo of quarterback Hagan Slimp and wide receiver Deshaun Fedd, Newman and his offensive staff will turn to another duo of playmakers.
They are running backs Derrell “LJ” Brown and Zion Mabry, or, as Newman refers to them,”Thunder and Lightning.”
