Georgia High School Football Spring Games: The Takeaways

While it may not have any meaning in the long run, spring games for Georgia high school football are a good opportunity to preview a team for the upcoming season. After keeping up with some of the earlier spring games (May 7 – May 14), here are some key things to take away from them. These scores may not be exactly correct because of how each team chose to conduct their spring games. Additionally, no spring game featured varsity play for the entirety of the game.

Meadowcreek 16 – Peachtree Ridge 0: Peachtree Ridge could barely move the ball all game, but their secondary showed some promise by intercepting three passes.

Callaway 41 – Harris County 21: The defending 2A state champions proved why they deserve every bit of respect. They still seem able to challenge Rabun County and Gunner Stockton once again in 2021.

Norcross 10 – Dacula 0: On offense, the connection between Blue Devils QB Javan Brown and WR Nakai Poole could be deadly come August. Dacula relied heavily on three-star RB/LB Kyle Efford and could barely accomplish anything without him.

Campbell 20 – Cherokee 17: Campbell was held scoreless in the first half and scored all 20 points against Cherokee’s freshman team in the second. The Cherokee offense needs to gain some consistency before the season begins.

Walton 63 – Alpharetta 24: Walton looked every bit of a state championship contender on both sides of the ball. Both of their quarterbacks threw some pretty passes in the first half, so they should be set for the future.

Kennesaw Mountain 17 – Harrison 14: Savion Riley could single-handedly lead the Mustangs to a playoff berth. He caught a 99-yard TD pass among other great plays.

Marietta 48 – River Ridge 7: This was more about Marietta’s defense than their offense. They proved their worth against a team that featured last year’s leading rusher statewide in senior River Ridge running back Amehre Morrison.

Lowndes 28 – Warner Robins 21: Despite early scoring by Lowndes, the Vikings still need to get adjusted to Chase Belcher at running back instead of wide receiver. Warner Robins didn’t extremely impress either, as they scored their first points off a fumble recovery.

Providence Christian 48 – Berkmar 0: 2021 doesn’t seem to be Berkmar’s year once again. They struggled with execution offensively and Providence Christian took advantage of it.

Banneker 65 – Discovery 3: This does not look at all like the playoff-caliber Discovery team from last year. Banneker led 30-0 before the second and third-string players were put in. They were also without three of their best players who were at a track meet.

Sequoyah 42 – Lassiter 10: Sequoyah proved that their future is strong as players from several different levels scored. See their performance as a precursor to their becoming a third-seeded team in their region and clinching a berth in the 2021 playoffs.
