Ohio State Football Lands Two 2022 Florida Commits in the Same Week

The 2021 high school football season kicks off months from now, but recruiting season is a yearlong trudge. Already boasting one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, including top-ranked quarterback Quinn Ewers, Ohio State football added two pieces to their prospective roster from the state of Florida from the class of 2022.

During the first week of May, Kye Stokes (Armwood) and Ryan Turner (Chaminade-Madonna Prep) verbally committed to Ohio State amidst a flurry of offers. Each has their official visit to Columbus scheduled in June. The two of them are the first three-star recruits to commit to Ohio State in the class of 2022.

After receiving 30 offers, including looks from Alabama and Auburn, Stokes made Ohio State his college of choice.

Stokes mostly lines up at safety and wide receiver at Armwood. He is the No. 75-ranked player in Florida and the No. 50-ranked athlete in the nation. In Armwood’s abbreviated season, Stokes finished with five interceptions, including back-to-back games where he recorded a pair of picks.

Three days after Stokes’ commitment, Turner hopped on the Buckeye bandwagon as well. A three-star corner out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep, Turner chose Ohio State over the likes of Arkansas and Clemson. Turner is the No. 35-ranked cornerback in the nation and cracked the top 50 in the state of Florida, positioned at No. 48 overall. He will go on his official visit to Ohio State on June 11.

The pair of Floridians joins a slew of three-star recruits taking their talents to Buckeye nation. Damon Arnette (2015) and Jeff Heuerman (2011) are a few of the most notable three-star Florida high school athletes to attend Ohio State. Arnette was a first-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Stokes and Turner join five-Star cornerback Jaheim Singletary, from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, as Floridians in Ohio State’s 2022 recruitment class. Singletary is the No. 13-ranked player in the nation.

Turner’s teammate at Chaminade-Madonna Prep, four-Star defensive end Kenyetta Jackson, has a visit to Columbus scheduled for late June.

Ohio State’s 2022 recruitment class currently ranks second on 247sports, behind UGA. They boast four five-star commitments, including Singletary and Ewers, the top prospect in the nation. They have several recruits waiting to take their official visits in June.

While the 2021 fall season doesn’t begin until August, Stokes will be in action this week, as Armwood High School takes on the Plant City Raiders on Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.
