Florida High School Unbeatens: Who Will Reach the State Semifinals?

A few weeks back, we looked at each Florida high school football team in Classes 1-2 and Classes 3-4 and Independent that was unbeaten at the time, and assessed what lay ahead as each sought to conclude the regular season with that perfect record intact. With the playoffs now underway, we update those lists with a look at remaining Florida high school unbeatens and what each needs to do to reach the state semifinals.

Class 4S

  • Lakeland
  • Bartram Trail

The only two Florida high school unbeatens left in Class 4S are Lakeland and Bartram Trail, with both the Dreadnaughts and Bears having cruised to regional quarterfinal playoff wins last week. In this week’s regional semifinal round, Lakeland will host Mitchell and Bartram Trail will host Creekside.

Should Lakeland defeat Mitchell, the Dreadnaughts would face off against either Lake Minneola or Winter Haven in a regional final, with a trip to the state semifinals on the line. Should Bartram Trail defeat Creekside, the Bears would then have to go through the winner of Buchholz-Crestview to reach the state semifinals.

Class 3M

  • St. Thomas Aquinas
  • Edgewater
  • Blanche Ely

Three teams remain undefeated in Class 3M, two of which, St. Thomas Aquinas and Blanche Ely, potentially could face off in the regional finals. To do so, however, the Raiders will have to defeat Atlantic this week, while the Tigers must get past Dillard.

The Edgewater Eagles have a notable matchup against Tampa Bay Tech, one that could go either way. Should they win, Edgewater will await the winner of Jones-Oviedo.

Class 3S

  • Pine Forest
  • Lake Wales

The two Florida high school Class 3S unbeatens in our previous update remain so – both Pine Forest and Lake Wales have yet to lose this season. Both teams will host a regional semifinal on Friday night, with Pine Forest playing Choctawhatchee and Lake Wales taking on Vanguard.

Should they advance, Pine Forest would take on the winner of Escambia-Columbia in a regional final prior to the state semifinal round. In the same scenario, Lake Wales would await the winner of Zephyrhills-Lecanto in a regional final.

Class 2M

  • Miami Central

One of the state’s top teams regardless of classification, Miami Central remains unbeaten ahead of its regional semifinal showdown with Miami Northwestern. Should they win that game, the Rockets would take on the winner of Booker T. Washington-Norland, with a trip to the state semifinals on the line.

Class 2S

  • Florida State
  • South Sumter

Moving onto Class 2S, only two teams remain undefeated: Florida State and South Sumter. In this week’s regional semifinal round, the Seminoles will host Pensacola Catholic in a tough matchup, while South Sumter will host Hudson.

Should they win, Florida State would advance to face the winner of the Suwannee-West Florida contest, while South Sumter would await the winner of Cocoa-Palm Bay.

Class 1M

  • Chaminade-Madonna
  • Trinity Christian
  • Cardinal Newman

As the Class 1M playoffs begin with the regional semifinal round, three Florida high school unbeatens remain: Chaminade-Madonna, Trinity Christian, and Cardinal Newman.

Chaminade-Madonna and Cardinal Newman could face off as early as the regional final round next week, assuming they defeat Avant Garde and Benjamin, respectively. Trinity Christian begins postseason play against Orlando Christian Prep on the opposite side of the bracket; assuming they win, the Conquerors would face the winner of University Christian-The First Academy, with a trip to the state semifinals at stake.

Class 1S

  • North Florida Christian
  • Evangelical Christian

These teams remain unbeaten on opposite sides of the 1S bracket. North Florida Christian will begin postseason play Friday against Maclay, while Evangelical Christian takes on Moore Haven.

Should each win, North Florida Christian would face the winner of St. John Paul II-Munroe in the regional finals, while Evangelical Christian would await the winner of First Baptist Academy-Community School of Naples.

Class 1R

  • Hawthorne
  • Northview
  • Chipley
  • Sneads

Concluding here with the Florida high school Class 1R unbeatens, four teams remain perfect on the season: Hawthorne, Northview, Chipley, and Sneads, each of which are coming off a bye week in the regional quarterfinals.

Hawthorne will face off against Wildwood this week, and should they win, they would take on the winner of Pahokee-Chiefland in the regional finals. Northview squares off with Holmes County and could potentially face Chipley in a regional final, should the Tigers beats Baker. Finally, Sneads faces off against Cottondale and with a win would advance to face the winner of Port St. Joe-Blountstown, with a trip to the state semifinals up for grabs.
