We tell you everything you need to know about the 2025 Crisp County High School football team in this preview, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Cougars this season.
2024 Season Stats
- Overall Record: 3-8
- Points Scored: 176
- Points Allowed: 239
Key Roster Losses
Crisp County will miss a couple of big bodies up front on the offensive line with the departure of Todd Glover and Avery Anderson. Glover will continue his football career with LaGrange College after signing with the Panthers last year.
Defensive lineman Zymarion Hudson will be joining Glover at LaGrange College. Hudson’s impact last year will be missed. He had 65 tackles, including 8 ½ sacks, in 2024.
Three-star defensive back Cayden Daniels has graduated and will be continuing his football career at Vanderbilt, where he’ll have a solid chance to start at cornerback as a true freshman this upcoming season.
Athlete Markevion Hartage’s versatility as a two-way performer for the Cougars will be missed.
Key Players Returning
New Crisp County head football coach Justin Newman will welcome back four seniors and a junior as key players to lead the Cougars in 2025.
Senior wide receiver Deshaun Fedd will once again be the primary receiver in the passing game. He has 85 catches with 1,639 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Senior quarterback Hagan Slimp passed for 1,622 yards with 11 touchdowns in 2024, and he’ll return this season.
Left tackle Brody Stephens returns for his junior season to provide support up front on the offensive line.
On defense, linebacker Jordan Fox, the team’s leading tackler in 2024, is back for his senior season, and he’ll be joined by fellow senior defensive lineman Carlin Ervin, who had 62 tackles last season.
What to Expect From the Crisp County Cougars in 2025
After a disappointing 3-8 season in 2024, Crisp County hired former Carver (Columbus) defensive coordinator Justin Newman as its new head coach, and the first-year coach has set some basic goals for his Cougars as they head into the 2025 season.
“The goals we have set as a program are to win all home games, compete for a region championship, make a deep playoff run, and chase perfection,” Newman said.
The team had a solid spring, ending with a successful effort against Wayne County in their spring scrimmage. Newman has a talented and experienced offense to work with this season, and he’ll work closely overseeing the defense.
The team appears to have improved, but the challenge that awaits Newman and the Cougars is one of the toughest regions and schedules in 2025.
2025 Season Prediction
Crisp County finishes 7-5.
Game to Watch
The Newman era officially begins with the Battle of the Flint at Sumter County on Aug. 15.
