Creekside Football 2023 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2023 Creekside football team, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Knights this season.

2022 Stats

  • Overall Record: 9-3
  • Points Scored: 469
  • Points Allowed: 369

Key Losses

Quarterback Wilson Edwards leaves Creekside after a successful 2022 season that saw the Knights offensive leader throw for 1,568 yards and 16 TDs with a completion percentage of 61%. He also rushed for 163 yards last season while scoring 5 TDs. Edwards may be finished at Creekside, but he’s not finished with football – he now takes his talents to play QB at Anderson University.

One of Edwards’ main receiving targets was 6-foot, 3-inch Hampton Reidl, who had his own solid senior season with 544 receiving yards and 7 TDs. Ian Moody was a Knights LB who ended up with 179 tackles over his career. Moody will keep playing, as he has signed with Gannon University. Other key losses head coach Sean McIntyre mentioned are DB Anthony Akel, LB Nathan Hernandez, and Brendan McMillian.

Who’s Back

The quarterback for Creekside this year will be junior Sean Ashenfelder, who threw for just under 1,000 yards (923) last season, with an excellent completion percentage of 61% (61 of 109). He tossed 9 TD passes while throwing just 3 interceptions. Ashenfelder also showed why he is a true dual-threat QB by rushing 67 times for 354 yards and 6 TDs

He will be seeking senior wideout Ashton Reynolds as one of his primary receivers. Reynolds exploded into a bona-fide receiver last season with 37 catches, 619 yards, and 8 TDs. Another breakout performance came from RB Nicky Williams, who ran for 1,417 yards last season on 248 carries. He scored 17 TDs while having five performances of 100+ yards rushing. The senior also had 144 yards and 2 TDs receiving. Other key returners are senior LB Brody McCough and senior DE Cody Long.

What to Expect

Coming off a nine-win season and buoyed by a load of returning talent gives McIntyre reason for optimism.

“We have a great group of returning players, and they all have a great relationship with each other,” McIntyre told ITG Next.

He added that this group likes to be pushed, and he and the rest of his staff will indeed be looking to push this year’s Knights team to go above and beyond six wins, which is what the Knights have averaged each season since 2018. They’re headed in the right direction, having improved to five wins in 2019-2020, eight wins in 2021, and nine last year. At this rate, they could be looking at 10 wins this season … right?

Prediction

Sean McIntyre has his 2023 Creekside football team taking another leap forward. 10-3 record this season.
