By the Numbers: 2022 High School Football Statistical Leaders

As high school football fans based here in the Southeast, we tend to hear the most about top players and teams in states such as Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Now let’s take a step back and look at the 2022 national high school football leaders in the major statistical categories. (Stats updated as of Saturday, October 15.)

Passing – Danny Stoddard (Medina, OH)

The nation’s leader in passing, Stoddard has completed 67.3% of his passes through eight games for Medina High School in Ohio. Stoddard has thrown for 300+ yards in all but one game and has a total of 3,125 yards with a 37:9 TD:INT ratio on the year.

Rushing – Ethen Knox (Oil City, PA)

A junior running back at Oil City High School in Pennsylvania, Knox has received a team-high 249 carries so far this season, which he has turned into 2,513 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. In leading the Oilers to a 6-2 record, Knox is averaging a whopping 10.1 yards per carry and has rushed for 400+ yards in five games this season.

Receiving – Donte Ferrell (Woodward, OH)

The second player from Ohio on this list, Ferrell has 77 receptions for Woodward High School. Averaging 18.9 yards per catch, Ferrell has 1,455 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

Tackles – Jason Minter (Celeste, TX)

As of last Saturday, the nation’s leading tackler was Minter at Celeste High School in Texas. In seven games, he has recorded 155 total tackles, 119 of which were solo, as well as 22.1 tpg, 17 tfl, and 4 sacks.

Field Goals – Caden Chittenden (Faith Lutheran, NV)

We wrap up our list of 2022 high school football statistical leaders with Chittenden, a kicker at Faith Lutheran in Nevada. He has made 14-of-17 field goal attempts for the Crusaders, with his longest coming from 56 yards out.
