Breaking News: Colquitt County’s Rush Propst Suspended One Year

VALDOSTA – Apparently the dust isn’t done settling from Colquitt County’s second straight state-championship winning season.

Just over six months after the Packers 30-13 win over Roswell in the Georgia Dome capped a perfect 30-0 two-year run, CCHS head coach Rush Propst has been suspended by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, most likely as a result of making contact with one of his players.

The incident occurred in the team’s semifinal game on the road in Hoschton against Mill Creek that was, unfortunately for Propst and those associated with the Packer program, being broadcasted as the Game of the Week by Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB).

After converting a two-point conversion late in the first half to put the team up by a touchdown, the GPB cameras clearly catch Propst making contact with kicker “Baby Lou” Martinez’s helmet.  Moments later, the Colquitt County head coach has blood rushing from his forehead.

The Packers went on to post 52 points on a Mill Creek defense that previously hadn’t allowed more than 17 points in a single game.  The following weekend, Propst and company won a second consecutive state championship.

Propst will appeal the suspension as Colquitt prepares to extend its historic winning streak.
