Brantley County Football Rising Star Is All Over the Field
Brantley County football head coach Geoff Cannon remembers when he first saw Kellon Middleton on the football field.
“I was attending the middle school game to watch my son Kirkland play, and that was the first time I had seen Kellon play. He was the star player as an 8th grader, and you could see just how raw his talent was,” said coach Collins.
It wasn’t long after that when the head coach would get to see Kellon in action as his coach.
“In 2019, we were playing Bradwell Institute in the spring game. Kellon was a rising 9th grader in football terms, but at the time of the spring game date, Kellon was still just an 8th grader. I’m standing there thinking that I’ve got an 8th grader out there playing against a class 6A team,” says Cannon.” But he held his own with those guys with no problem.”
Kellon has always lived in Brantley County. He is the son of Lance and Kristi Middleton, and has three older siblings. Landon and Hayden are his older brothers, and his sister is Sydney, who plays tennis and runs track at Brantley.
His mother says his dad and brothers are a big reason for Hayden’s athletic abilities.
“He was always in the yard with his dad and his brothers. They did a lot to help him toughen up,” she says.
While playing with his friends and family helped the tough side of Kellon, it was a God-given ability that may be Kellon’s top weapon…and not just on the football field.
“Kellon has always been really fast. I remember they used to call him the ‘backdoor bandit’ when he played basketball. He was really fast on the court, and would sneak up behind players and steal the ball from them. So, the players started calling him that,” she said.
