We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Booker T. Washington football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 5-7
  • Points Scored: 195
  • Points Allowed: 235

Key Losses

Booker T. Washington’s biggest losses come on defense, with arguably no two names bigger than Semaj Flagg and Jakarie Sands, each of whom was among the Tornadoes’ leading tacklers in 2021. Linebacker Donte Easterling is also a key loss in the front seven, while multiple names in the back end of the Tornadoe defense have moved on, including Justin McMullen, Nicolas Vargas, Joshua McMullen, and Kaylyn Reeves.

On offense, the Tornadoes’ most notable loss is leading receiver Adam Moore, a rising senior who transferred to Miami Northwestern. Xavier McElliott is also a key receiver who moved on, along with running back Se’maj Banks.

Who’s Back

While the Tornadoes lost a significant amount of production in the secondary, that is also where their biggest returnee, rising senior Fabian Scott, plays. Additionally, the front seven could be a big strength for Booker T. Washington, as names Jamorie Flagg, Cordell Roberts, Terrance Chambers, Xavier Wilson, and Carlton Williams all return.

The Booker T. Washington offense again will be led by Claudell Sherman, who returns for his junior season. Rising sophomore Sean Ponder also saw time at the position a year ago. Antwan Smith returns as the anchor of the Tornadoes’ running game and Xavier Irvin is poised for a big season as Booker T. Washington’s WR1.

What to Expect

Part of a loaded Class 2M-Region 4, Booker T. Washington enters the 2022 season with a familiar face back at the helm as Tim Harris returns as the head coach of the Tornadoes. The Tornadoes return a notable amount of production on the defensive side of the ball, as well as some key names on offense at almost all of the skill positions.

Having struggled at times each of the past two seasons, Booker T. Washington could very well be set for a bounceback 2022 campaign. It won’t be easy in a deep region, but don’t count out a potential playoff run for the Tornadoes this season.

Prediction

Booker T. Washington will win at least seven games this season and reach at least a regional semifinal.
