We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Wakulla football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 10-3
  • Points Scored: 413
  • Points Allowed: 192

Key Losses

One of the biggest losses for Wakulla is Zamarion Smith, the War Eagles’ starting running back who rushed for more than 1,900 yards a year ago, while also accounting for over 20 total touchdowns. Also ranking among Wakulla’s leading receivers, Smith is joined by two-way player Denzel Miller as a key loss on offense, while others such as Clay Sorrell, Brendan Wilson, and EJ Manning have also moved on.

On defense, Wakulla has to replace two of its top tacklers in Kanye Westfield and Denzel Miller, both of whom recorded over 100 tackles a year ago. One of the War Eagles’ top pass rushers, EJ Harvey, has also moved on, as have others such as Carson Baze and Herman Walker.

Who’s Back

The defense will again be a big strength for the War Eagles in 2022, with no two names bigger than that of Todd Williams and Tanner Lanier, who combined for 200+ tackles and 20+ sacks last season. Alongside those two, the Wakulla front seven will again feature names such as Cody Walker and Dalton Avera, while the secondary returns two-way player Xavier Blake and Marquez Johnson.

The War Eagles’ offense returns some key contributors as well, headlined by starting quarterback Haden Klees, a rising junior who threw for 2,327 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2021. Joining Klees in the backfield is the aforementioned Blake at running back, while Samron Brinson and Gabe Carter are names to know at receiver.

What to Expect

One of the top preseason teams in Florida 2S-Region 1, Wakulla enters the 2022 campaign after reaching a Class 5A regional final last year. The War Eagles return a number of key names from that team, hinting at what could be a special season. Expect them to return to the playoffs and possibly make a deep run.

Prediction

Wakulla will win 10 games in 2022 and reach a regional final.
