Minor High School Baseball Player Tylan Amerson Named ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for May 2023
One of the state’s best on the basepaths this spring, Minor baseball player Tylan Amerson has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for May 2023, which stems from his on-field play during April. Amerson received 58.38% of the votes over a list of three additional finalists.
Amerson’s April was a memorable 30-day span in which the Tigers went a combined 14-2. The junior hit .475 AVG (29-for-61) for the month, while also driving in 18 runs and recording 5 doubles, 2 triples, and a home run. Amerson was among the state’s leaders in batting average and stolen bases (37) for the month. He had 10 multi-hit games during the month, headlined by a 4-for-5 showing on April 1 in an 11-8 win over Meek.
Arguably the biggest accomplishment of Amerson’s 2023 season also came in April as he broke the all-time AHSAA record for stolen bases in a single season. His 86 steals eclipsed the previous record, which had stood since 2018 when Josh Hall stole 82 bases for Homewood.
Amerson made a significant overall impact for a Minor baseball team that won 30+ games to reach the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs. He batted for a .504 AVG, recorded a 1.270 OPS, and finished with 2 home runs and 29 RBI on the season.
