West Limestone High School Softball Player Lilly Bethune Named ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for May 2023
As a result of her on-field play during April, West Limestone High School sophomore softball player Lilly Bethune has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for May 2023, receiving 37.50% of the possible votes over three additional finalists.
In a month in which the Lady Wildcats went 15-4, Bethune hit .544 (31-for-57) with 7 HR and 41 RBI. She had 11 multi-hit games for the month, as well as a nine-game hitting streak that was loaded with memorable performances.
During that streak from April 17-24, Bethune went 21-for-29 (.724 AVG) as the West Limestone softball team recorded a perfect 9-0 record. Bethune had seven multi-hit games during that span, with 27 RBI, 4 HR and 6 doubles. Within the streak was a memorable three-game stretch from April 20-22, when Bethune went 8-for-11 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, and 4 doubles.
Bethune has been a prominent player all season long for the Lady Wildcats, who won the Class 4A-Area 15 Tournament and made the Class 4A North Regional. At the time of writing, Bethune is slashing .523/.564/1.015 for the season, with a 1.580 OPS, 14 HR and 81 RBI, the latter of which ranks among the state’s leaders. The sophomore also has 55 runs scored, 13 doubles and 4 triples.
