Milton High School Track Athlete Devin Dahunsi Voted ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month for April 2023
Congratulations to Milton High School senior track standout Devin Dahunsi, our April 2023 ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance.
Dahunsi is the 2023 Milton boys track team captain, and he holds the school record in the triple jump. He has enjoyed a tremendous season so far in 2023, including standout performances over the past month in several track and field events.
Dahunsi had strong performances in four separate events that took place as part of the Fulton County Schools Championship meet at Westlake High School. He won the overall long jump competition with a distance of 22 feet, 7 inches. He finished as runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 45 feet, 10.5 inches. Then, as a member of the Eagles boys 4x100m relay team, he helped his team to a third-place finish with a time of 42.73 seconds. Dahunsi’s contribution as a member of the 4x400m relay team helped secure a fifth-place finish time of 3:28.99. These performances helped lead the Milton boys track squad to a third-place finish out of the county’s 15 participating schools.
Dahunsi and the Milton track and field team also competed in the annual Buffalo’s River Ridge Invitational Meet at River Ridge High School. There, Dahunsi again had a stellar performance with a first-place finish in the triple jump at 45 feet, 9 inches. That was also a top-50 U.S. performance. He finished second in the event’s long jump, ran on the 4x200m relay team – which achieved Milton’s third-best performance ever – and captured a PR in the 100m with a time of 11.54.
Milton recently competed in the Pepsi Florida Relays. Held in Gainesville, FL, the Florida Relays is one of the most prestigious track and field events in the Southeast, and Dahunsi represented himself and Milton high school’s track team quite well in two separate events. He competed in the triple jump, where he captured third place overall with a jump of 44 feet, 8.5 inches. The Milton team captain also competed in the long jump, with an outstanding jump distance of 21 feet, 2.75 inches.
Milton head track and field coach Lonnie Estes acknowledged the talent and leadership that make Dahunsi an outstanding team captain.
“His approach to track and field is great to see,” Estes said. “Devin is a four-event athlete for us, and his leadership speaks for itself. He’s very dependable and sets the example for his teammates.”
Coach Estes said Dahunsi has worked hard to improve his overall strength and speed, and he “isn’t afraid to step out of his comfort zone.”
