Susan Moore Takes Over No. 1 Ranking

The latest update of our 2022-23 Classes 1A-3A Top 25 rankings for Alabama high school girls basketball is headlined by a new No. 1 team, as 3A’s Susan Moore jumps into the top spot. Cold Springs and Hackleburg were among the biggest risers of the week, as each jumped three spots to No. 17 and No. 21, respectively, while three new teams enter the rankings for the first time at the Nos. 23-25 spots – Ohatchee, Westminster School at Oak Mountain, and Marion.

The latest update of our 2022-23 Alabama high school girls basketball rankings for Classes 1A-3A brings four new teams – Cold Springs, Clements, Luverne, and Hackleburg – into the mix, with a few other squads moving up the rankings. Included in that group is AISA 2A’s Edgewood, which makes the biggest jump of the week, up seven spots to No. 9. Hatton, Sulligent, and Long also see notable rises.

 The first update of our 2022-23 Alabama high school girls basketball Classes 1A-3A Top 25 rankings is headlined by a few notable rises, many of which come from the AISA.

Class 1A’s Spring Garden made the biggest move, jumping five spots into the Top 10 following their undefeated start to the season. Two AISA teams, Edgewood and Sparta, rose three spots each due to strong starts, as did Hatton from Class 2A.

Two new squads, Lee-Scott and Sylvania, entered the Top 25. The Warriors, who are also in the AISA, are off to a 2-0 start, and the Rams are also 2-0 at the time of this writing.

Preseason Rankings

Holding the No. 1 spot in our initial 2022-23 Alabama high school girls basketball rankings for Classes 1A-3A is defending Class 2A state champion Pisgah, while a few other defending state champions from both the AHSAA and AISA are also ranked. Those teams include No. 8 Glenwood, No. 10 Marion County, No. 19 Edgewood, and No. 22 Abbeville Christian.

Class 3A runner up Susan Moore begins the year at the No. 2 spot, while Saint James, which reclassified to 3A during the offseason after finishing as the 4A runner-up a year ago, sits at No. 3. A few more runners-up from last season are ranked to begin the year, including No. 7 St. Luke’s Episcopal, No. 12 Skyline, No. 15 Tuscaloosa Academy, and No. 25 Sparta.
