2022 MLB Draft: 5 Florida Prospects Likely to Go in the First Two Rounds

2022 MLB Draft Florida Prospects

With the 2022 high school baseball season officially over, the focus at the prep level has fully shifted toward the travel baseball summer season. However, for a few of the top names in Florida, attention has also turned toward the looming MLB Draft in July. It’s shaping up to be a special one for Sunshine State talent in the first couple of rounds. Here is a look at some of the top Florida prospects in the 2022 MLB Draft, each of whom is likely to be selected in the first two rounds.

Elijah Green – IMG Academy

Along with Druw Jones of Wesleyan (GA), Green is one of the top prep outfielders available and should be Florida’s first player selected, likely going in the top five overall. He hit .462 with the Ascenders this spring, and has legit five-tool potential as a prospect at the next level.

Brandon Barriera – American Heritage

Florida will likely see two left-handers go in the first round, the first of them being Barriera. The southpaw posted a 2.27 ERA in eight starts for the Patriots this past season, and could now hear his name called among the top 10 or 15 overall picks.

Jackson Ferris – IMG Academy

The second of the those left-handers is, the IMG Academy ace who posted a 1.03 ERA in 2022, along with a 103:15 K:BB ratio. He too should not have to wait long before being selected.

Walter Ford – Pace

After the big three of Green, Barriera, and Ferris come off the board, Florida’s next selection isn’t likely to come until midway through the second round. Ford, an Alabama commit, could be that next selection after a senior season at Pace that was among the best in 6A.

Roman Anthony – Stoneman Douglas

Anthony, whose draft stock has continued to rise in recent months, could potentially be one of the top high school outfielders available in the second round. He was a massive part of Class 7A state champion Stoneman Douglas’s success during the 2022 season, batting .520 with 10 home runs.

In addition to those five, here are some more Florida prospects who could potentially go in the first two rounds of the 2022 MLB Draft, or at least in the third round:

  • Sal Stewart (Westminster Christian)
  • Jordan Taylor (St. Johns Country Day)
  • Cameron Smith (Palm Beach Central)
  • Brady Neal (IMG Academy)
