AHSAA Class 3A Predictions: The Elite 8
We make our predictions for who will make it to the Elite Eight in AHSAA Class 3A.
The 2020 Class 3A playoffs featured four clear top teams: eventual 3A state champion Fyffe, Montgomery Catholic, Montgomery Academy, and Piedmont. If you thought they wouldn’t be the focal point once again in 2021, think again.
Fyffe will once again be loaded after winning their third consecutive state title between two classifications, while 3A runner-up Montgomery Catholic returns talent headlined by LB TJ Dudley, RB Jeremiah Cobb, and QB Caleb McCreary.
Expect Slocomb and Pennington to reach the quarterfinal round after being upset in the second round last season, while Oakman is a team to watch to potentially make a deep run after losing to Fyffe in the first round a year ago.
If these predictions come true, we will get a highly anticipated 3A quarterfinal rematch later this year between Montgomery Catholic and Thomasville, a game in which Montgomery Catholic won 24-15 last season.
