Everyone knows what the defending-champion Colquitt County Packers are doing this season. And, until they meet on Friday, both Colquitt and Lee County are undefeated in Region 1-AAAAAA.
But, many eyes have yet to focus on the quiet storm brewing in Kingsland. After a subpar 5-5 year in 2014, the Wildcats are back, and they are back with a point to prove.
Six games in, six games won. After finishing .500 a season ago, Camden County is sitting in a three-way tie for the top of the region, and don’t look to have any intentions of slowing down any time soon.
After traveling to Valdosta and posting a 31-10 win over the black and gold Wildcats, Camden returns home for their second region battle against the Lowndes Vikings (Valdosta, Ga.). The biggest contribution of the night was the ground game, as senior Harrison Poole (14 carries, 89 yards), junior Brandon McMaster (15 carries, 54 yards), and sophomore Mikey Packard (11 carries, 43 yards) powered their way through the Valdosta defense. Senior Terry Compton led the way on defense, totaling 10 tackles, including one sack. He also recorded one of the five interceptions of the night for the ‘Cats from Kingsland.
The Vikings will be looking to avenge a region-opening loss to Colquitt County. On a rain-soaked night, the Vikings still managed to give the Packers a huge fight for most of the contest. Quarterback Austin Dixon led the offense, recording 175 yards and three touchdowns (17-28 passing); he also added 70 yards on the ground on 12 rushing attempts. Juis Regal (11 receptions, 119 yards, one touchdown) and Dezmon Copeland (8 rushing attempts, 39 yards) helped move the ball for the Vikings.
The Wildcats look to remain undefeated, and the Vikings look for the first region win of 2015.
