Chad Smith began his wrestling career at the same school he now coaches. He started wrestling in his junior year at Bainbridge High school after being inspired to wrestle by two high school friends, Brain Hines and Alex Pearson. Up until that time, the school did not have a wrestling program.
“Our first year, we didn’t even have a mat to practice on or a proper facility,” Smith said. “We bounced around from the gym or any other local spaces that would accommodate the team; we even used the football field and practiced in the grass on occasion.”
