Many of the nation’s top recruits have been making their collegiate decisions over the last two months, prior to the start of the 2022 high school football season. Here we check in on some of the top 2023 prospects in Florida who remain uncommitted (as of Sunday, August 7).
Cormani McClain – Lakeland
The state’s top cornerback and one of the top overall players in the 2023 class, McClain is one of the more coveted defensive back recruits in this cycle. He holds offers from almost every major collegiate program, with Alabama, Florida, and Miami among the teams in the mix for the five-star prospect. McClain transferred from Lake Gibson to Lakeland in the offseason.
Hykeem Williams – Stranahan
One of the state’s top wide receivers, the Stranahan five-star is one of the top uncommitted wide receivers nationwide. A player who holds upwards of 30 collegiate offers, Williams is a name to watch for when it comes to a future commitment, with schools such as Florida State, Georgia, Pittsburgh, and Texas A&M in the mix.
Samuel M’Pemba – IMG Academy
M’Pemba is another of the top uncommitted 2023 prospects from Florida and one of the nation’s top uncommitted edge rushers. He has also seen time on the offensive side of the ball. The IMG Academy product holds upwards of 35 collegiate offers, with schools such as Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Oregon vying for his skills.
Damon Wilson – Venice
Another five-star edge rusher in the Sunshine State’s 2023 class, the Venice standout is a name who has only continued to rise up recruiting rankings in anticipation of his senior season. Wilson holds over 25 collegiate offers, with numerous teams such as Alabama, Georgia, and in-state Miami in the mix.
Cedric Baxter Jr – Edgewater
Among the state’s top running backs, Baxter is one of the next players from Florida expected make his commitment. The four-star Edgewater product is set to announce his collegiate decision on Wednesday, August 10, from a final four of Florida, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Makari Vickers – Munroe
Transferring from St. John Paul II to Munroe this offseason, Vickers is one of the best defensive backs in Florida. The four-star is also expected to announce a collegiate decision in the near future (on August 26) from a list that includes Alabama, Michigan, and Oklahoma.
Dijon Johnson – Wharton
Johnson is a standout cornerback at Wharton and a four-star defensive back in the 2023 class. He recently de-committed from Ohio State and now is garnering interest from in-state programs such as Florida and Miami.
Rueben Bain – Miami Central
The Miami Central edge rusher is one of the top uncommitted defensive line prospects in the 2023 class from Florida. Bain, a four-star prospect, holds over 25 collegiate offers, two of which come from in-state programs in Florida State and Miami.
