6 In-State Players Headline Top-Ranked UGA 2024 Recruiting Class

With the commitment of the nation’s top quarterback, Dylan Raiola, in May, the Georgia Bulldogs now hold the top spot in the 2024 recruiting class rankings. Eighteen total players have committed to UGA as of mid-June, with six currently playing high school football within the Peach State.

The best in-state pickup of the UGA 2024 recruiting class so far has been Colquitt County wide receiver Ny Carr. A high four-star prospect, Carr posted just over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last season for the Packers.

Alongside former Georgia commit Landen Thomas, Colquitt County used a prolific passing attack to reach the state semifinals for the 10th time since 2009. Carr is UGA’s highest-rated wide receiver commit in four years.

Swainsboro two-way standout Demello Jones is Georgia’s second-best recruit from within the state. Jones is listed as a safety, but it was his offensive contributions that led the Tigers to the A-D1 state championship game last year. He racked up nearly 1,300 rushing yards and was the team’s leading receiver, finishing the season with 27 total touchdowns.

Not far behind Jones is Dwight Phillips Jr, a speedy running back from Pebblebrook High. Phillips, a track and field sensation, won the Georgia 7A 100-meter state title. That may not come as a surprise to most, as his father of the same name was an Olympic gold medalist in 2004.

Georgia was far and away the best offer Phillips received, and the nation’s seventh-ranked running back committed not long after the Bulldogs’ second national championship victory in as many years.

UGA, which has become a busy pipeline to the NFL, got its most recent in-state commitment from Mountain View defensive lineman Justin Greene, who chose the Bulldogs just over a week ago. As a junior last season, Greene posted 9.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and 60 total tackles. He is a bright spot on a Bears squad that has finished below 0.500 the past two years and has struggled offensively.

Athlete Sacovie White is the highest-rated three-star prospect of the UGA 2024 recruiting class. After an excellent showing in front of the Georgia staff at a 7-on-7 tournament last summer, White was offered by the Bulldogs and committed soon after. His impact on special teams has been crucial for the Cass Colonels: He returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns last season.

White also notched a pick-six defensively and totaled more than 700 receiving yards on the offensive side of the ball. Only four other schools have offered him: Charlotte, Florida A&M, Maryland, and Troy.

Only two offensive line commits are part of the UGA 2024 recruiting class so far, one of whom is Cartersville’s Malachi Toliver. Looming large at 6 feet, 6 inches and 315 pounds, Toliver helped paved the way for over 5,000 yards of total offense for the Canes last season.

Cartersville’s rushing attack in particular thrived, to the tune of 45 touchdowns on the ground. Toliver is currently Georgia’s lowest-rated, non-specialist commit, but he will have the opportunity to raise that ranking as the 2023 season progresses.
