Former Alabama high school quarterbacks are well-represented at college football’s FBS level. A number of former in-state stars are off to strong starts in the 2023 season, and we take a look at five of the best.
Bo Nix (Oregon)
Nix is probably the biggest name of former Alabama high school quarterbacks who is currently at the FBS level. The former Pinson Valley standout is showing exactly why many considered him a potential Heisman Trophy candidate in the preseason. Through the first three games of the year at Oregon, Nix completed 77.6% of his passes for 893 yards with an 8:0 TD:INT ratio, while also rushing for 60 yards on 11 attempts.
Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland)

Riley Leonard (Duke)
Leonard has enjoyed a strong start to his junior season at Duke in the ACC. The former Fairhope multi-sport star completed 67.7% of his passes for 530 yards and a 1:0 TD:INT ratio through three games, while also rushing for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns on 25 attempts.
Robby Ashford (Auburn)
The Hoover product hasn’t seen as much action as some of the others on this list, as he’s the backup quarterback at Auburn. In three games, Ashford has completed 46.2% of passes for 61 yards and a 1:0 TD:INT ratio, and he’s rushed for 76 yards and 4 touchdowns on 15 attempts.
Zion Webb (Jacksonville State)
The former Central-Phenix City signal caller has seen time this season for Jacksonville State in the school’s first year as a member of CUSA. Across three games, Webb has completed 48.7% of his passes for 217 yards, while also rusing for 76 yards on 21 attempts.
In addition to those five, here are a few other Alabama high school football quarterbacks who have seen FBS action to begin the 2023 season:
