2023 MLB Draft: 5 Potential First-Rounders to Know

Even though the 2023 MLB Draft is still some nine months away, there’s already a general idea of which high school prospects are likely to be selected in the first round. Here are a few of those names, along with a guess of where each might hear his name called.

Max Clark – Franklin Community, IN

The 2023 MLB Draft will likely be loaded with collegiate prospects at the top of the first round, but if there is one high school prospect who will be in the midst of those names, it’s Clark. An outfielder from Franklin Community High School in Indiana, the Vanderbilt commit and Indiana Bulls standout is likely the top prep prospect in the entire 2023 draft. He should continue to make a case for being the No. 1 overall pick after hitting .577 as a junior this past season.

Walker Jenkins – South Brunswick, NC

While Clark is likely the first prep prospect who will come off the board, Jenkins probably will not be too far behind in the top 10. The South Brunswick (NC) High School and South Charlotte Panthers outfielder is also coming off an impressive junior season, one in which he hit .527 with 10 HR.

Arjun Nimmala – Strawberry Crest, FL

Florida could have at least two players selected in the first round in Nimmala and Aidan Miller, both of whom are infielders. Nimmala, a Florida State commit, might be the bigger name to watch for, however; the Strawberry Crest High School and Ostringers product could easily be the top prep middle infielder in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Kevin McGonigle – Monsignor Bonner, PA

Speaking of infielders, another high schooler who could come off the board in the top half of the first round is McGonigle. The Monsignor Bonner (PA) and Canes National product is coming off a junior season in which he hit .457 with 11 HR, and he should contend with both Nimmala and Miller to be the first prep infielder selected.

Thomas White – Phillips Academy, MA

White is not only the top high school left-hander in the 2023 class, but the Phillips Academy (MA) product might very well be the No. 1 prep pitcher in the entire class. It certainly feels like White has the potential to be a Top 10 pick at the least, and he should be a lock for the first round.

In addition to those five, here are a few other high school prospects who appear to be on track to hear their names called in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft:

  • Travis Sykora – Round Rock, TX
  • Noble Meyer – Jesuit, OR
  • Charlee Soto – Reborn Christian, FL
  • Blake Mitchell – Sinton, TX
