While seniors and juniors tend to get a majority of the attention for their play on the field, sophomores and freshmen should not be forgotten, either. In fact, a number of Class of 2026 players have made key impacts for their respective teams during the 2022 Florida high school football season so far. Here’s a look at five of those outstanding freshmen.
Sabby Meassick – Tohopekaliga
The Tohopekaliga Tigers are off to an impressive 5-0 start to the season, and their freshman quarterback is a big reason why. In those five games, Meassick has completed 73.1% of his passes for 1,868 yards and a 31:2 TD:INT ratio at the helm of a Tigers offense that is averaging 48.6 PPG.
Mason Mallory – West Boca Raton
On the topic of freshman quarterbacks, you cannot have this conversation without mentioning Mason Mallory. Having helped lead West Boca Raton to an impressive 4-2 start to the season, he has thrown for 796 yards with a 13:1 TD:INT ratio in the Bulls’ first six games.
Javian Mallory – West Boca Raton
And speaking of West Boca Raton, it’s hard not to mention one Mallory without including the other. Javian Mallory has carried the ball 89 times for 491 yards and 6 touchdowns at running back, while also reeling in 9 catches for 227 yards and 4 more scores.
Kaleb Woods – Newberry
Woods has also impressed at running back for a Newberry team that has gone 3-2 up to this point. In his first four games of the year, Woods rushed for 597 yards and 7 touchdowns on 62 carries.
Eric Smith – Franklin County
The final name to round out this list of outstanding Florida high school football freshmen is Smith, a name who has been impressive on the defensive side of the ball. In the first six games of the season, Smith has compiled 57 total tackles, 10 TFL and 2 sacks.
