2022 Midseason Title Favorites in Alabama High School Volleyball

We are essentially at the midway point of the 2022 Alabama high school volleyball season. If we had to make a pick for the state title favorite in each classification, who would it be?

7A – Spain Park

While Class 7A has a few other potential contenders here, including Bob Jones and Sparkman, Spain Park is the pick. The defending Class 7A state champion Jaguars have lost only once to an in-state opponent this season (as of Saturday, September 10) and appear to have a strong chance to go back-to-back in 2022.

6A – St. Paul’s Episcopal

The same argument can be made for Class 6A as well, but few teams have impressed more this season than St. Paul’s Episcopal. The Saints should be in the mix for a state title after finishing as the state runner-up a year ago. They had lost only four times entering September, with one of those defeats coming to another potential 6A contender, Pelham.

5A – Jasper

Class 5A also has a few additional teams to choose from, including Arab, but it feels likely that Jasper will be the leading contender for the state title later this year. Speaking of Arab, the Knights and Vikings have already met once this season, and the two probably will clash again come playoff time.

4A – Bayside Academy

While Trinity Presbyterian and Montgomery Academy are two teams to watch for, both have however lost to the Admirals this season. Bayside Academy, the defending 5A state champions, appear poised for another state title later this season. Many of their losses so far have come to the teams listed above.

3A – Mobile Christian

The Leopards have impressed on the court this season after a 2021 campaign in which they struggled at times. Mobile Christian should be among the top 2022 Alabama high school volleyball teams in Class 3A come playoff time and could very easily end up winning a state title this year.

2A – Ariton

While Lamar County is a potential favorite in Class 2A, Ariton is the choice here. Few teams have impressed more than the Purple Cats this season – they’ve yet to lose and appear set for a state title push after falling in the first round of the state playoffs a year ago.

1A – Donoho

The final 2022 Alabama high school volleyball team on this list, Donoho is likely to team to beat in Class 1A at the moment. The Falcons are the defending 1A state champions and should be in the mix for a state title later in the year.
