Week 9 Preview: Colquitt vs Valdosta

The ‘Cats Head to the “Hog Pen”

Valdosta Wildcats (5-2, 1-1) vs. Colquitt County Packers (7-0, 2-0)

Venue
Mack Tharpe Memorial Stadium
Moultrie, Ga.

The highly anticipated battle between the Colquitt County Packers and the Lee County Trojans ended in a blowout; the defending champions remain perfect at 7-0 and are preparing for a region battle against the Valdosta Wildcats on Friday.

Valdosta comes in off a win as well; their 26-23 home win over the Tift County Blue Devils came down to the final moments.

Valdosta’s Seth Shuman and Colquitt’s Chase Parrish are arguably the best quarterbacks in Region 1-AAAAAA, and if their battle on Friday lives up to expectations, this contest should be one for the ages.  Shuman currently leads the region in completed passes (124-201) and passing yards (1,856) and still has yet to throw an interception on the year.  Not far behind is Parrish, who has gone 97-of-135 in the air for 1,437 yards.  The two are tied with 18 touchdown passes thrown.

Two major keys to the success of these quarterback are their respective targets.  Valdosta’s Jamarcus Tyson (26 receptions, 536 yards, 5 TD) and Colquitt’s Kiel Pollard (37 receptions, 555 yards, 9 TD) will be ready to torch any defender that underestimates them once the ball is snapped.

Packer fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink for Friday’s game; the school is planning a “pink out” in order to raise awareness for breast cancer and support for those affected by the illness.
