Week 12 Preview: Valdosta vs Lee

Two Region Contenders Battle to Secure Playoff Berth

Valdosta Wildcats (6-3, 2-2) vs. Lee County Trojans (6-3, 1-3)

Venue
Bazemore-Hyder Stadium
Valdosta, Ga.

On Friday night, the Valdosta Wildcats will be looking to defend more than their home field when they take on the Lee County Trojans in their season finale.

The Wildcats come into the matchup after a 17-7 victory over the Lowndes Vikings at Martin Stadium in the most recent chapter of the Winnersville Classic.  On the other side, the Trojans fell in a close contest, 17-13, to the still-undefeated Camden County Wildcats.

With only Friday’s game remaining in the regular season, the top seeds are essentially set.  While it is uncertain of the exact positioning of the top two spots, it is guaranteed (by virtue of region record) that the Colquitt County Packers and Camden County Wildcats will sit atop the pile.

The remaining two spots are up for grabs, and it will be a fight to the finish.  Three teams (Valdosta, Lee County, and Lowndes) all have a chance to capture one of the final tabs for the postseason.  While the situations could play out in numerous ways, there is one simple equation for Valdosta: Win, and you’re in.  Defeating the Trojans would give Valdosta three region wins, push their final record to 6-4, and give them the third seed in Region 1-AAAAAA.

The Trojans are still very much in the playoff picture, and they still have a chance of clinching the third seed in the region as well.  A win for them would certainly shake up the bottom half of the region seeding.

Will the Wildcats secure the third seed? Can the Trojans finalize their chase for a postseason slot? Give us your thoughts by participating in the weekly “Pick ‘Em” Contest! And be sure to check in through the ScoreStream app to stay on top of everything happening on Friday nights!
