We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Vero Beach football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 7-3
- Points Scored: 386
- Points Allowed: 238
Key Losses
Vero Beach is tasked with replacing a notable amount of production on offense. Gone is quarterback Maurice Smith, who threw for 33 touchdowns a year ago. The Indians also have to replace their leading wide receiver and running back in Ephraim Floyd and Reggie Ferguson, respectively. James Smith is another talented receiver who has moved on.
Defensively, James Monds III is a notable loss in the secondary, and the same can be said about Brandon Neely and Chandler Taylor along the Indians’ defensive line. Other notable Vero Beach defenders who have moved on include Michael Gool, Liam Baysura, and Keijuan Roberts.
Who’s Back
The Vero Beach offense sees a few noteworthy returns in 2022, with no name bigger than wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs, a rising senior who caught 10 touchdowns a year ago. Elsewhere on the Indians’ offense, Quincy Rodgers returns for his senior season as Vero Beach’s RB1, and transfer addition Tyler Aronson could play a key role at quarterback.
On defense, Yasnier Rojas returns after ranking among the Indians’ top tacklers last season. Other players to watch for include Keyshawn Campbell, Elijah Anderson, Derrick Williams, Kenzi Brown, and Nathan Guinn.
What to Expect
Coming off a Florida Class 8A regional semifinal appearance a year ago, Vero Beach is an intriguing team to watch as we enter the 2022 season. The Indians potentially have one of the top offenses in 4S-Region 3, and don’t sleep on their defense, either. Expect Vero Beach to return to the playoffs.
Prediction
Vero Beach will win seven games in 2022, making a playoff appearance.
