2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 14-1
  • Points Scored: 493
  • Points Allowed: 216

Key Losses

When looking at the key losses for Tampa Bay Tech, the offensive side of the ball certainly sticks out. Most notable is the running back duo of James Evans and Ronald Sims, who together accounted for more than 1,500 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns last season. Wide receiver Greg Gaines, who had 954 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, is likely the biggest overall name who has moved on, while John Ponder is also a key loss.

The Titans’ defense also must replace defensive back Michael Boone, as well as standout pass rusher Keyon Clark, who collected 70+ tackles and 15+ sacks a year ago. Other key losses include Jadyn Church, Cyris Alexander, Jeremiah Johnson, and Tristian Boone.

Who’s Back

Tampa Bay Tech returns a few key names on the offensive side of the ball from last season, including quarterback Xavione’ Washington, who accounted for 32 total touchdowns. Two of the Titans’ top receivers, Santonyo Isaac and Javion McKay, also return, while Syncere Styles, a rising sophomore, is a name to watch for in the running game.

On defense, the Titans return two key pass rushers in Antonio Camon and Jahiem Borden, both of whom also ranked among Tampa Bay Tech’s top tacklers a year ago. Leading tackler Ed Gwinn also returns, along with notables such as Donteye Drew, Johnnie Tyson, Norrie Davis, Marque Vereen, Rukeem Stroud, Tyson Tukuafu, and Landon Hernandez.

What to Expect

The 2021 season was a special one for Tampa Bay Tech, the Florida Class 7A runner-up a year ago. The Titans went 14-0 before falling to St. Thomas Aquinas 42-14 in the state title game. The 2022 season is shaping up to be a special one for the Titans as well, and Tampa Bay Tech certainly could be back in state title contention.

Expect the Titans, led by quarterback Xavione’ Washington, to have one of the top offenses in 3M-Region 1, and the Tampa Bay Tech defense should be just as strong. Tampa Bay Tech is poised for another deep playoff run.

Prediction

Tampa Bay Tech will win 12 games in 2022, reaching at least a regional final.
