There were several individual top performances to go along with exciting action manufactured by several teams throughout Week 1 of the 2022 Georgia high school football season.
Tyson Greenwade, RB, Dalton
Dalton RB Tyson Greenwade had a night to remember as the Catamounts’ feature back scored six of his team’s seven touchdowns to lead them to a 49-27 victory over North Murray High School’s Mountaineers. The senior rushed for 371 yards on 24 carries, but that and his six TDs weren’t the only big things Greenwade did on this special night: He also had an interception to clinch the win for his Dalton squad.
Jeremy Hecklinski, QB, Walton
Walton QB Jeremy Hecklinski came out big for his 2022 season debut as he and his Raiders teammates played late Saturday afternoon at the Mercedes Benz Stadium as part of the Corky Kell Classic. Despite Walton falling to the Mill Creek Hawks 44-41, the junior signal caller did his part, completing 20-33 passing for 425 yards and four TDs while looking to avoid ball hawk and five-star FS Caleb Downs for Mill Creek. Hecklinski did a pretty good job of that and avoiding all of the Hawks’ DBs by throwing no interceptions.
Jacob Ulrich, K/P, Mill Creek
On the other side, Mill Creek kicker Jacob Ulrich was a major factor in his team’s 3-point win. The senior K/P came up huge, connecting on three of four FG attempts, including a school record-tying 56-yarder. Ulrich just missed a 55-yard attempt earlier in the game. He also averaged 42 yards per punt on his two attempts.
Luke Kromenhouk, QB, Benedictine
Benedictine QB Luke Kromenhouk – who played very sparingly last season while serving as starter Holden Geriner’s backup, yet committed to Florida State before the start of the season – showed everyone what the college recruiters already knew behind the scenes: The future Benedictine starter was going to be good once he got his chance, and he did just that in his team’s season opening 45-0 win over Jenkins. The Cadets starter threw for four TDs and rushed for another score in the defending 4A state champion’s win.
Ousmane Kromah, RB, Lee County
Lee County sophomore RB Ousmane Kromah picked up right where he left off last season, where as a freshman he rushed for over 1,700 yards. In his team’s season opener Friday night, the super sophomore rushed for 216 yards and scored two TDs on 20 carries, leading his Trojans team to a 26-10 victory over the defending 5A state champion Warner Robins Demons on the road.
