Top 3 California Football Teams Going Into Next Season
In California, high school football delayed its season to the spring of 2021 instead of having it during the fall of 2020 like normal. Going into next season, it seems the Trinity League will continue to reign supreme as it is home to the top three teams in the state. There should be some very exciting matchups next year as many teams have top college prospects finishing their high school careers. Here are the top three high school football teams from California going into next season.
-
Mater Dei, Spring 2021 record: 5-0
Mater Dei has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the state each of the past four seasons, and they seem to be continuing that tradition going into next season. Mater Dei is home to some of the best players in the state, having 11 of the top 75 players from California in the 2022 recruiting class. That is truly an embarrassment of riches and many of their starters for next season will be starters for Division I programs. Look for rising star sophomore quarterback Elijah Brown to lead the Monarchs back to the Trinity League title game and win it for the second consecutive year.
-
John Bosco, Spring 2021 record: 5-1
The Braves will be out for revenge next season as they had their undefeated season come to an end at the hands of Mater Dei. They were 5-0 until the Trinity League title game, dominating the rest of the league before Elijah Brown and his Mater Dei Monarchs claimed the top spot once again. While five-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has been gone for a year now, his brother, four-star defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei, is one of the top prospects in the class of 2023. He will surely help St. John Bosco be one of the best teams in the nation once again as they try to usurp Mater Dei as the kings of the Trinity League.
-
Servite, Spring 2021 record: 4-2
Another member of the famed Trinity League, Servite, is one of the teams that is often forgotten about in the war between Mater Dei and St. John Bosco. They went undefeated against the rest of the league last season, with blowouts in all their wins. However, they couldn’t overcome the two powerhouses at the top, putting up a good fight, but losing both games by a combined 17 points. Against those two programs, that’s impressive. They are still one of the best teams in California in their own right, and they have some very talented players, including the top ranked wide receiver prospect in the state in Tetairoa McMillan. Look for the Friars to possibly upset one of the two top dogs next season.
